YouTube’s “Super Chat” will help creators monetize their videos and live streams

YouTube expects highly-passionate fans to pay for highlighted comments and interactions during videos and live streams with their favorite creators.

40 days until 20,000+ global leaders come together for SMW February Conference. Learn more.

YouTube wants to help creators on the platform make more money from videos while deepening the relationship they have with fans and followers.

In an official announcement, YouTube said:

“Today, we are introducing our latest tool for fans and creators to connect with one another during live streams: Super Chat. Anybody watching a live stream can purchase a Super Chat: a highlighted message in the chat stream that stands out from the crowd to get even more of your favorite creator’s attention. And Super Chats remain pinned to the top of chat for up to 5 hours, giving more airtime for your messages.”

Super Chat will roll out on January 31 to creators in 20 countries, and viewers in more than 40 countries. YouTube expects highly-passionate fans to pay for highlighted comments and interactions during videos and live streams. Creators can then respond directly to the fan.

YouTube hopes fans will send a few dollars directly to their favorite creators in order to get recognized and form a more meaningful dynamic through the videos, rather than YouTube comments or interactions on other social platforms.
